Measurement Error Analysis: Performing from Inception Design versus When Design is Completed
Company:Raytheon
Category:Project Case Study
Presenter:Chris Dulaney
Date / Time:January 12, 2005
Delivered At:Changing the Practice of Product Development
Length:30 Minutes
Description:Measurement system variability (also referred to as error) is a key factor in determining the achievable sigma levels of a systems critical parameters. In the traditional product development and design process this was handled by using a ten times rule of thumb and then reacting to problems after they arise in the factory. This presentation explains measurement system analysis and the process for performing it. Examples of reactive MSAs performed during production are provided. The examples show what type of errors can arise and emphasize why they should be addressed early in the design cycle rather than in the factory.
