Company:Seagate Technology
Category:Breakout
Presenter:John Best
Date / Time:May 18, 2006
Delivered At:7th Annual Six Sigma Leadership Conference
Length:60 Minutes
Description:

Seagate has used blended learning to move beyond traditional classroom training to a more curriculum-based format that promotes ongoing education. By enabling students to refresh their knowledge and learn foundational concepts using e-learning, the blended curriculum delivers greater flexibility and reduces the required classroom time. Seagate’s model merges a variety of learning activities including on-line courses, classroom and practical experience, to provide employees improved performance support and the opportunity to continue to learn throughout their careers.

The Seagate educational process:

  • Leverages the strengths and commonality of Six Sigma, Design for Six Sigma and Lean into one “Business Excellence” training model

  • Allows students to progress in training without repeating core learnings (example: green belts do not have to take redundant courses to become black belts but build on their existing coursework)

  • Uses adult learning principles to ensure that the various styles of learning are address in the training

  • Provides effective training delivery methods to address the large population needing both initial and refresher training

  • Provides self-paced e-learning courses which double as preparatory work and refresher training

  • Utilizes a Core Course designed for all business professionals which address the key processes and tools across the three methodologies
