| | January 10, 2005 | Design for Six Sigma has been an initiative within product development for several years now. Most companies start out implementing DFSS as a collection of tools within marketing and engineering. Even though this often yields isolated, or localized value to the development of the product, overall product performance, cost, and producibility are not significantly improved at launch, and even worse, often miss the target of customer satisfaction. DFSS needs to be recognized as a process thread within the overall product development process and applied at the program level to fully realize its total value.
