Paul earned a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt in 2004 and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt in 2005. He earned a B.S. in Biochemistry and Biophysics from UC Davis and a Ph.D. in Molecular & Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley. Subsequently, he did his post-doctoral work at Onyx Pharmaceuticals where he was on the team that discovered what is now known as Nexavar™, a kinase inhibitor recently approved for the treatment of kidney cancer. After his post doctoral work, he became a founding member of the Automated Solutions Development laboratory at Beckman Coulter where he played a contributing role in the development of Beckman Coulters line of light duty laboratory robots. Paul joined Valeant Pharmaceuticals International in 2001 and was charged with the oversight, design, construction and operations of the High Throughput Screening, Compound Control, Biobank and Bioproduction laboratories. In addition to these duties he was responsible for managing the capital assets, establishing a Kanban consumable supply system tied directly to vendors through on-site market places and the company purchase requisition system. Paul is now the Director of Operational Excellence at Valeant Pharmaceuticals International based in Costa Mesa, CA.
